Godetia – Dwarf Single Mix

Price range: $2.50 through $40.20

Godetia Dwarf Single Mix (Clarkia amoena) is a compact, improved variety of a wildflower native to western North America, especially along the Pacific coast from California to British Columbia. A member of the Evening Primrose family, Godetia is botanically classified under the Clarkia genus, named in honor of Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

This dwarf variety produces vibrant, single-petaled blooms in a mix of pink, rose, lavender, and white shades. It is a strong attractor of pollinators, particularly bees, and performs beautifully when mass planted. Its upright, bushy habit and vivid flowers make it a standout as a border plant, in containers, or among native grasses in meadow-style gardens.

Godetia thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained soils with low to moderate fertility. Like other members of the Evening Primrose family, it grows best in poor or sandy soils and can tolerate alkaline or even slightly saline conditions. When planted in nutrient-rich soil, the plant often produces lush foliage at the expense of flowers.

This cool-season annual germinates best in cooler weather and is not well-suited to hot or humid climates. Temperatures consistently above 80°F (27°C) can inhibit flowering or cause the plant to decline. Because Godetia does not transplant well, it should be direct-sown outdoors, either into the ground or in pots where it will remain.

In western North America, fall planting is ideal for early spring blooms. In colder or eastern regions, sow the seeds in early spring once the danger of frost has passed. Godetia also makes an excellent cut flower, with blooms that are both delicate and long-lasting in floral arrangements.

With its compact size, vibrant color, and ease of care, Godetia Dwarf Single Mix is a charming and valuable addition to any low-maintenance or pollinator-friendly garden.
