Candytuft – Dwarf Fairy Mix

Price range: $2.50 through $23.50

Candytuft (Iberis umbellata) is a delicate and colorful annual flower native to southern Europe, where it commonly grows wild in open fields and along roadsides. It is especially well-adapted to the lime-rich, chalky soils found throughout the Mediterranean region, as well as in parts of western and central Europe. Unlike many garden plants, Candytuft thrives in poor, well-drained soil and performs best in neutral to alkaline conditions.

The ‘Dwarf Fairy Mix’ is a compact variety that forms low-growing, rounded mounds of soft, pastel-colored blooms in shades of pink, lavender, purple, and white. Its neat, mounded habit makes it an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, containers, or as a colorful filler in smaller garden spaces. The dainty, clustered flowers are also well-suited for use as cut flowers, adding a soft, romantic touch to floral arrangements.

Candytuft can be planted in USDA zones 7 through 9, either in spring or fall, depending on local climate. In warmer regions, fall planting is recommended to allow the plants to establish in cooler weather and bloom early in the season. In hot climates, it’s best to plant in an area that receives partial shade during the hottest part of the day. Seeds may be started indoors, but for best results, Candytuft should be transplanted into the ground before blooming begins, which promotes stronger root development and more abundant flowers.

With its charming appearance and easy-care nature, Candytuft ‘Dwarf Fairy Mix’ is a lovely addition to any garden, especially where soft color and compact growth are desired.
