Chinese Forget-Me-Not – Blue
$2.50 – $18.50Price range: $2.50 through $18.50
The Chinese Forget-Me-Not (Cynoglossum amabile) is a charming, sky-blue annual flower that was introduced to the United States from China, where it is native to cooler, mountainous regions. Despite its delicate appearance, it is a resilient and adaptable plant, making it a favorite for wildflower gardens, borders, and cottage-style plantings.
This flower performs best in full sun but will also tolerate light shade, especially in warmer regions. It is highly climate-flexible, able to grow well in both cool and warm conditions, and is tolerant of a range of soils—from moderately moist to dry—as long as they are well-drained.
Chinese Forget-Me-Not can be started indoors or directly sown outdoors, depending on your preference and climate. It is easy to grow from seed and often reseeds itself naturally, returning year after year in favorable conditions. Despite this self-seeding ability, it is not considered invasive and is easy to control in the garden.
This plant is grown primarily for its small, bright sky-blue flowers, which resemble true forget-me-nots (Myosotis spp.) but bloom on taller stems and over a longer season. While it is considered a shorter cut flower, its soft color and fine texture make it a lovely addition to small arrangements and floral fillers.
For USDA zones 7–10, the best time to plant Chinese Forget-Me-Not is in the fall, allowing it to establish during cooler months and bloom in spring or early summer. In cooler zones, spring planting after the last frost is recommended.
