Godetia – Pink

Price range: $2.50 through $69.75

Godetia Pink is an improved variety of a native wildflower found in western North America, ranging from California to British Columbia. This flower belongs to the Clarkia genus, named in honor of Captain William Clark, a key figure in the historic Lewis and Clark Expedition. As a member of the Evening Primrose family, Godetia Pink is well known for its vibrant pink blooms that strongly attract bees and other pollinators.

This flower thrives when mass planted, making it an excellent choice for colorful borders and naturalized wildflower gardens. Its bright pink flowers stand out vividly when growing among native grasses and other meadow plants, adding eye-catching color to any landscape.

Godetia Pink prefers full sun and well-drained soils with low to moderate nutrient levels. It is adaptable to sandy, alkaline, and slightly saline soils. When grown in rich or heavily fertilized soil, the plant often produces lush foliage but fewer flowers.

The seeds germinate best in cooler weather, and Godetia does not tolerate hot or humid climates well. Temperatures consistently above 80°F (27°C) can cause the plant to decline or fail to bloom. Because Godetia has a delicate root system, it does not transplant well and should be sown directly outdoors, either in the ground or in pots left in place.

For gardeners in western North America, fall planting is recommended to take advantage of cooler, wetter conditions. In colder or eastern regions, sow seeds in early spring after the last frost. Additionally, Godetia Pink makes an excellent cut flower, with long-lasting blooms prized for floral arrangements.
