Godetia – Peach

Price range: $2.50 through $66.45

Godetia Peach is an improved variety of a native wildflower found in western North America, with a natural range extending from California to British Columbia. This plant belongs to the Clarkia genus, named in honor of Captain William Clark, a key figure in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. As a member of the Evening Primrose family, Godetia Peach is known for its attractive, soft peach-colored blooms that are strong bee attractors.

Godetia Peach thrives when mass planted, making it an excellent choice for colorful borders, wildflower gardens, and naturalized meadow settings. Its vibrant peach flowers stand out beautifully when growing among grasses and native plants, adding warmth and brightness to any landscape.

This flower prefers full sun and grows best in well-drained soils with low to moderate nutrient levels. It is well adapted to sandy, alkaline, and even slightly saline soils. When planted in rich or heavily fertilized soils, Godetia tends to produce more foliage at the expense of flowering.

Seeds of Godetia Peach germinate best in cooler weather and the plant does not tolerate hot or humid climates well. Temperatures consistently above 80°F (27°C) can lead to poor performance or failure to bloom. Since Godetia does not transplant well, it is best to sow seeds directly outdoors, either in the ground or in pots that remain in place.

For gardeners in western North America, fall planting is recommended to take advantage of the cooler, wetter conditions. In eastern or colder regions, sow seeds in early spring after the last frost. Additionally, Godetia Peach makes an excellent cut flower, prized for its delicate, long-lasting blooms.
