Godetia – White
$2.50 – $69.75Price range: $2.50 through $69.75
Godetia White is an improved variety of a native wildflower found in western North America, with its natural range stretching from California to British Columbia. It belongs to the Clarkia genus, named in honor of Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. A member of the Evening Primrose family, Godetia is well known for its graceful blooms and attractiveness to pollinators, especially bees.
This elegant white-flowered variety thrives when mass planted and adds a soft, luminous contrast to colorful borders, cottage gardens, or wildflower meadows. The clean white petals make it especially striking when planted among native grasses or alongside brighter-colored Godetia varieties.
Godetia grows best in full sun and well-drained soils that are low to moderately fertile. It is well adapted to sandy, alkaline, and even slightly saline soils. Rich or heavily fertilized soil may encourage more foliage growth but will often reduce flowering.
This cool-season annual germinates best in cooler temperatures and does not tolerate heat or humidity well. Prolonged exposure to temperatures above 80°F (27°C) may result in poor growth or failed blooming. Due to its sensitive root system, Godetia does not transplant well and should be sown directly outdoors—either in prepared garden beds or in pots that will remain undisturbed.
In western North America, fall sowing is ideal for earlier blooms in spring. In colder or eastern regions, plant in early spring after the risk of frost has passed. Godetia White also makes an excellent cut flower, with long-lasting, delicate blooms that hold up well in floral arrangements.
