Cosmos – Sulphur Dwarf Lemon Yellow

The Sulphur Dwarf Lemon Yellow cosmos thrives in hot, arid climates and is native to Central America. It is well adapted to withstand temperatures of 100°F (38°C) and above, making it an excellent choice for warm regions.

Cosmos sulphureus produces smaller, delicate lemon-yellow flowers compared to the larger blooms of Cosmos bipinnatus. This variety tends to bloom later in the growing season, providing extended color in your garden when many other plants have finished flowering.

In dry, warm climates, it can be planted in the fall for a prolonged bloom period. However, in colder or more humid regions, it is best to sow seeds in the spring after the soil has warmed, since Cosmos sulphureus seeds require heat for germination and may remain dormant or rot in cold, wet soil.

This variety grows best in well-drained, moderately infertile soil, as excessive fertilization can cause rapid, weak growth that results in plants becoming unstable. It is a low-maintenance plant that can sustain itself even when neglected once established.

While they can be started indoors, Sulphur Dwarf Lemon Yellow cosmos perform best when directly sown outdoors in their permanent growing location.
