Daisy – Tahoka
$2.50 – $120.00Price range: $2.50 through $120.00
Tahoka Daisy, also commonly known as Prairie Aster, is a fast-growing native wildflower found throughout the southwestern and central United States. We classify this species as an annual, although in some regions or under certain growing conditions, it may behave more like a biennial.
Once germinated, Tahoka Daisy develops quickly and typically reaches a mature height of around 2 feet. It features lavender to purple daisy-like blooms with yellow centers, resembling small asters, and usually flowers from mid-summer through early fall. The plant’s fine foliage and bright blooms make it a valuable addition to wildflower mixes, pollinator gardens, and native prairie restorations.
Tahoka Daisy grows best in medium-textured soils (such as sandy loam) and in regions that receive 18 to 24 inches of annual rainfall. It is moderately drought-tolerant once established but performs best with some seasonal moisture. This species does not tolerate saline soils or shade, and planting it in full sun is essential for successful growth and flowering.
Although seedling vigor may be low, Tahoka Daisy compensates with a well-developed fibrous root system, making it a strong candidate for soil stabilization and erosion control in native restoration or conservation projects. It is particularly useful in disturbed or marginal sites where low-maintenance, native plant cover is desired.
