Larkspur – Rocket Lilac

Rocket Larkspur is a charming annual flower native to southern Europe and the Mediterranean region. The Lilac variety produces tall, elegant spires of soft lavender-lilac blooms that bring a gentle, romantic touch to the garden. Its delicate, pastel-colored flowers rise above finely divided, fern-like foliage, creating a soft, airy texture that contrasts beautifully with the upright stems, which can reach two to four feet in height. Lilac Rocket Larkspur blends wonderfully with other colors in borders, meadows, and cutting gardens, pairing well with whites, pinks, and deeper purples.

If sowing in spring, refrigerate seeds for one to two weeks before planting to simulate winter cold, which improves germination. The seeds prefer cool soil for sprouting and may not germinate well in warm conditions.

Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil with moderate moisture. Avoid soggy conditions, as excessive wetness can cause root or crown rot. Blooming typically begins in late spring and continues through summer, with successive sowings extending the flowering season into early fall. Because Rocket Larkspur develops a long taproot, it is best direct-sown into the garden rather than transplanted.
