Poppy – California Mikado
$2.50 – $48.30Price range: $2.50 through $48.30
The ‘Mikado’ California Poppy offers striking, silky red blooms that open fully in bright sun and gently close when skies turn cloudy or when planted in shade. This variety is drought tolerant and well suited to hot, dry climates once established, making it an excellent choice for low-water gardens. For cut-flower use, stems should be harvested in the bud stage, when they hold best and open beautifully indoors. Because California Poppies resent root disturbance, ‘Mikado’ is not recommended for indoor or container starting. In colder regions, seeds should be sown outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked, while gardeners in warmer climates can plant in early fall for vibrant displays in late fall and again in spring.
SPECIAL NOTE: California Poppies can be invasive in some US States. It is always best to check with your state Department of Agriculture on what flowers are considered invasive or noxious before planting them.
