Godetia – Tall Mix
$2.50 – $44.55Price range: $2.50 through $44.55
Godetia Tall Mix is a striking, upright variety that grows significantly taller than the other Godetias we offer. Unlike the shorter, more compact forms, this variety produces long stems with flowers that bloom vertically along the stem, creating an elegant, spire-like display. It is an excellent choice for gardeners looking to add vertical interest to borders, beds, or wildflower gardens.
Native to western North America, Godetia can be found naturally from California to British Columbia. It belongs to the Clarkia genus—named in honor of Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition—and is part of the Evening Primrose family.
Godetia is a strong attractor of bees and other beneficial pollinators. It thrives when mass planted and pairs beautifully with grasses and other wildflowers. The Tall Mix offers a range of vibrant colors, including shades of pink, red, lavender, and white, all of which stand out brilliantly in naturalized settings.
This variety prefers full sun and well-drained soil with low to moderate nutrient levels. It is well adapted to sandy, alkaline, and slightly saline soils. When planted in rich or heavily fertilized soils, Godetia may produce excessive foliage at the expense of flower production.
Godetia germinates best in cool weather and does not tolerate hot or humid climates. Sustained temperatures above 80°F (27°C) may cause flowering to fail. Because it has a delicate root system, Godetia does not transplant well and should be sown directly outdoors, either in garden beds or containers that won’t be disturbed.
For best results, sow seeds in the fall in western North America to allow plants to overwinter and bloom early in spring. In colder or eastern regions, sow seeds in early spring after the last frost. Godetia Tall Mix also makes an exceptional cut flower, with long-lasting blooms and graceful stems perfect for floral arrangements.
The broadcast rate for seeding is 4 – 5 pounds per acre.
The seed drill rate for seeding in rows is 2 pounds per acre.
