Western Yarrow is one of the least difficult perennial flowers to grow. Yarrow naturally grows in clusters and is very resilient. It is drought tolerant and can grow with very little water or care. A spot that offers full sun with partial shade will provide almost everything this flower needs. Suitable soil can be either dry or moist, and well-drained. Western Yarrow can grow in a multitude of different soil compositions. It is a great flower to plant in the trouble spots that plague your garden, or somewhere that you don’t want to have to manage often. Fern-like foliage covers the Western Yarrow. It provides a great cut and dried flower. Yarrow is a strong attractor of birds, bees and butterflies. This perennial has been used throughout the centuries as an herb for historical, medicinal purposes and is a good ground cover crop. Yarrow naturally grows in underground runners and can aid in hillside erosion control. Fall or spring planting seasons will work for this flower.
*Most perennials will not bloom the first year they are planted. They establish a plant the first year and then bloom the second and every year after that. Annuals will give you color the first year you plant them and then can reseed themselves if they like where they are growing. This is why perennials tend to be more expensive. It takes twice as long to get seed off of the plant than an annual when initially planting.
