Rose Mallow – Dwarf Pink
$2.50 – $23.25
Rose Mallow, or Annual Mallow, is a fast-growing annual flowering plant native to the Mediterranean region, specifically southern Europe and North Africa. It belongs to the mallow family (Malvaceae) and is known for its large, hibiscus-like blooms in shades of pink, white, and rose.
This plant thrives in full sun and can tolerate a variety of soils, although it prefers well-drained soil. It can also adapt to drier conditions, making it suitable for gardens with limited water once established.
Lavatera trimestris is best direct-sown outdoors in spring after the last frost, as it does not transplant well due to its long taproot. The standard variety of Rose Mallow, once planted, grows rapidly, reaching heights of 2 to 4 feet (or taller, depending on the variety). It is typically grown as an annual, completing its life cycle in one growing season. This Dwarf more compact variety tends to grow bushier and more compact, making them ideal for container gardening or small spaces. It gets around 12-24″ tall.
This plant makes an excellent cut flower, and deadheading (removing spent blooms) encourages continuous flowering throughout the summer. While it is a short-lived plant, its abundant blossoms and ease of care make it a favorite in cottage gardens, borders, and wildflower plantings.
The broadcast rate for seeding is 60 – 75 pounds per acre.
The seed drill rate for seeding in rows is 30 pounds per acre.
